Society labels me as a BBC (British Born Chinese), because I was born in Scunthorpe,
a town in northern England, to Hong Kong immigrants. After
22 years in the UK, my parents uprooted the family to San
Francisco, California and I was enrolled in the oldest public
high school west of the Mississippi River, Lowell.
I graduated magna cum laude from Notre
Dame de Namur University (formerly College of
Notre Dame) in Belmont,
California in History and Social Science with a Political Science
minor.
While
in high school, teaching became my calling. I pursued my dream by
earning a teaching degree also from NDNU. Henry
M. Gunn Senior High School in Palo
Alto, the heart of Silicon
Valley, was where I began teaching full-time. Down the road,
teaching abroad became a desire. A colleague and friend encouraged
me to pursue this aspiration. Before I knew it, I woke up in Bogotá,
Colombia teaching at Colegio
Los Nogales, a private, national, and bilingual school. Thereafter,
I held the chair of history and social science at the American
International School in Abu Dhabi. Now I reside in China,
exploring my heritage while teaching at Shanghai
American School.
Life
outside of school includes relaxing with a good book, socialising
with a fresh cup of coffee, and trying new types of foods to name
a few. However, nothing beats travelling. As you can see throughout
my web site, I've posted photographs from a few of my leisurely
travels and arduous treks. Yes, I took all the photos, so you can
also list amateur photography and basic web page design as interests
of mine. |
